Runda Claustra

Following an icon – the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway – the route goes uphill from the impressive Benedictine monastery of Disentis; there are some steep ramps to overcome. After crossing to the other side of the Rhine: pure gravel fun in a constant up and down like a roller coaster, ending with a short, fun singletrail descent.

Beschreibung

The starting point of this gravel bike route is Disentis (1129 m above sea level), whose townscape is dominated by the imposing Benedictine monastery. From here, you ride leisurely along the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway, which leads you with steady ups and downs to Sedrun (1406 m above sea level). From Rueras (1405 m above sea level) you follow mountain bike route no. 205. With some steep ramps, your legs are intensely tested, but the high alpine panorama compensates for all the effort. Shortly after Milez Sura (1877 m above sea level), the route turns left towards Tschamut; this detour downhill to Val Val is highly recommended. You continue with the gravel bike for about ten minutes into the dead end, and with every meter traveled, the landscape becomes purer, until you finally feel small and insignificant at the back of the valley, amidst high peaks, close to nature.

Back at the junction to Tschamut, you leave the mountain bike route and take on the rapid descent. In Tschamut (1643 m above sea level), you cross the Oberalp Pass road and follow mountain bike route no. 1. A short singletrail section brings you to the golf course in Surrein (1531 m above sea level), and from here on there's nothing but pure gravel fun. The gravel road downhill to Sedrun (1406 m above sea level) feels like a roller coaster. Sweaty but rewarding regarding flora and fauna, it climbs from Surrein (1381 m above sea level) along the Rein da Nalps on mountain bike route no. 1. The traverse through Uaul Cavorgia lets you catch your breath again before tackling the last ascent to Uaul da Crestas (1631 m above sea level). The descent to Mumpe Medel rewards you with a gigantic view of Disentis. But the route is not yet finished: on mountain bike route no. 1, you return to Disentis on a singletrail descent that really challenges you.
