Rietberg
Beschreibung
Here Jörg Jenatsch and his followers slew the nobleman Pompey of Planta, which Conradin Ferdinand Meyer described in dramatic terms 250 years later in his historical novel "Jürg Jenatsch" (1876). Somewhat less dramatic is the history of the facility. The tower probably dates from the first half of the 13th century; the complex was built in several stages during the 17th and 18th centuries. A major reconstruction, in which the eye-catching ox eyes were also attached to the top of the tower, took place in the late 17th century. Rietberg was the seat of the Lords of Rietberg, who are mentioned in a document from 1286 as vassals of the Lords of Sax-Misox. The following owners mostly come from the great Grisons noble families. In 1917 it passed through marriage to the Rudolf Planta-Casparis family, whose descendants still own it today.
