Beschreibung

Access to the Lugnez was blocked off on the left side of the valley by a letzi-like wall. As part of this, below today's valley road in the municipality of Cumbel, an ogival gate has been preserved, which is called Porclas or Frauentor. It became the symbol of the legendary battle of the Lugnezerinnen in the feud between Ulrich Belmont and the Count of Werdenberg-Sargans (1352). By rolling down stones, the women are said to have decided the battle at Porclas in favor of the Belmont. As a thank you, they are said to have been granted the right to sit on the right side in the valley church of Pleif. Due to the shape of the pointed arch, it is possible for the gate to be built since the end of the 13th century.

Places of Magic - Cumbel/Peiden

Porclas

The Frauentor in Porclas stands on the border between Foppa and Lumnezia. In the past, the gate leaned against the steep rocky slope, which was removed during the construction of the road. There are no written sources about the construction, but the ogival gate suggests the end of the 13th century. Of the iron hinges, the two upper ones have been preserved. With two door wings the gate could be closed. The Frauentor Porclas is under federal protection. The conjectures show that the historically significant Frauentor is an exciting place of divergence. It is a monument to our heroines and a symbol of clever and fearless women.
