Over the Prasignola Pass from Avers to Bergell

The tour begins in Avers-Cröt, where it heads into the high valley of Val Madris. The hike leads along the Madris Rhine through the long, rustic and very sparsely populated high valley. The ascent begins in Sovräna and leads into the Val da la Prasgnola. An impressive stone slab staircase leads to the pass at an altitude of 2,724 m above sea level, which was built in Val Madris for summering cows and cattle from Bergell. This is because the upper section of the Val Madris was developed and used as a settlement area by the Bergell in the 14th century.

Shortly after the pass, there are a few exposed sections secured with chains. Be sure to follow only the white-red-white striped path markings. Traces of an old path through rockfall-prone scree gullies are visible in places.

The long descent is mostly on narrow mountain paths with numerous hairpin bends. After the alpine settlement of Läira, the route descends along forest paths to Soglio, where a village steeped in history and with plenty of Mediterranean flair awaits us.
