Alte Averserstrasse
Beschreibung
The transport of wood was very difficult and was hardly done. In order to still be able to use the resource from Ferrera's forests, the wood was hollowed on site and could be taken away as lighter coal. In winter, there was another transport option: On the frozen Averser Rhine, the wood was pulled by oxen and cattle on sledges, even up the valley to Juf. From the completion of the Alte Averserstrasse in 1895, as the last "road" (passable Talerschliessungsstrasse) in the canton of Graubünden, the use of wood became more efficient and the arduous shopping marches over the Prasgnola Pass to Chiavenna also ended.
