This route at the far end of the Safien Valley leads through a pine forest and past the Wanna compensating reservoir, Walser houses and Alpine huts to «z’Hinderst». Hikers are surrounded by restful silence and, if they’re quiet enough, they can watch deer, chamois or even ibexes along the way.

Beschreibung

If you are at the very back of the wintry, secluded Safiental valley, you will soon be surrounded by a relaxing sense of tranquillity. The wide valley floor is framed by imposing mountains such as the Wisshorn, Schwarzhorn and Gelbhorn. At times you feel like you are in an amphitheater. The winter hiking trail starts in Thalkirch, Turra and winds along the valley floor to z'Hinderst, as it is also called there. Before your eyes is an imposing rock face, which is used by daring athletes for ice climbing.

Along the way, you can always enjoy a beautiful view of the scattered Walser settlements typical of the Safiental. The view extends as far as the Camaner huts, which form contrasting dots in the snow like a string of pearls.

In the Turra exhibition stables of the Safier Stables Association, you can learn interesting facts about the settlement of the Safiental and the wooden buildings and stables typical of the valley. You can even try your hand at shingling a roof yourself.

Satisfy your hunger and thirst with delicious regional delicacies at the nearby Turrahus mountain restaurant or the Gasslihof inn.

Sicherheitshinweis

The tour should not be undertaken in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes are frequent in the mountains. If a snow front or similar is approaching during the hike, you should turn back in good time.

Please pay attention to the signalization. The winter hiking trail runs together with the cross-country ski trail in places. The cross-country skiers will thank you if you do not hike on the cross-country ski trail.

Anfahrt

Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel

By train to Versam-Safien. From Versam-Safien train station, take the bus in the direction of Thalkrich. Get off at the post bus stop Thalkirch, Gassli (approx. 300 m to the entrance) or Thalkirch, Turra.

Anreise Information

Take the A13 towards Thusis, exit Bonaduz. From Bonaduz to Versam and from there to Safien Platz to Thalkirch, Turra.

Parken

In the afforestation (about 150 m after the hamlet of Turra) there is a driveway on the left side of the road with parking spaces, Toitoi toilet and direct access to the winter hiking trail. Further parking spaces shortly before Turra on the left side of the road at the Chüeberg bridge or at the Gasthaus Gasslihof.
