Weisstannen

The Weisstannental has many unique natural beauties. Natural beauties that invite you to go hiking and never cease to amaze locals and guests. The idyllic Weisstannental is located in the middle of the Heidiland holiday region in the largest municipality in the canton of St.Gallen (Mels). A well-maintained road leads from the Mels village square for about 12 km to Weisstannen. The valley consists of two villages or hamlets. The actual village of Weisstannen is located at 1000 m above sea level and Schwendi at 900 m above sea level. At 2937 m above sea level, the mountain peak of the Grosse Schibä in the Weisstannental valley is the highest point within the municipality of Mels. There are offers for all ages. The hiking trail between Schwendi - Weisstannen - Alp Siez also invites older people and families with children to take a leisurely walk. But the Weisstannental also has a lot to offer for mountain hikers. The geology of the Weisstannental is also worth mentioning. It is surrounded by the phenomenon of the Sardona Tectonic Arena, which is the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site declared in 2008.
