Tubenstein

Tubenstein
The Tubenstein does not owe its name to the pigeons.

Beschreibung

Rather, it is the caves (tubes / tubes) that run through the rock here and shape the place name.

From here you have the entire history of the valley in view: the Domleschger castles and palaces, the corrected Rhine bed, the route of the Rhaetian Railway and the national road A13.

But that's not all: not far from here, the remains of a Bronze Age settlement were discovered in 1942. It was inhabited from 2300 to 800 BC by up to 50 people. The Cresta settlement is thus the oldest permanent settlement in the region.

The Tubenstein itself was opened up almost 150 years ago with a walking path. This was created by the Beautification Association, founded in 1872, which had written the "raising and promotion of tourism" on the flag.

The association not only had paths dug, it was also the one who took care of the cementing of the pavements on Neudorfstrasse and the purchase of a road spraying car.
