Beschreibung
This route follows the original route of the transviamala walking through the legendary Viamala gorge. From the starting point Thusis, the route leads on the old commercial road from 1820 through the Verlorene Loch to Rongellen. At the height of the spectacular Traversinersteg, the course changes the Rhine side and leads over a technically demanding single trail to the Viamala Visitor Center. Directly at the staircase, which leads down to the Rhine, is the Wildenerbrücke, which once made the dreaded Viamala route accessible to carriages.
The trail leads further south and down to the Rhine, where a filigree suspension bridge made of stainless steel and natural stone, the Punt da Suransun, leads over the young Rhine. Through a fairytale forest, the route leads to the hill of Cultira Davora near Reischen, where a magnificent view of the open Schamsertal presents itself. Via Reischen and Zillis it goes over varied paths to Pignia and down to Pignia Bad. Again the Rhine side is changed and after Clugin and the ascent according to plan follows shortly before the finish in Donat another architectural sight, the Valtschielbrücke, an early structure of the famous bridge builder Robert Maillard. Take the PostBus back to Zillis and Thusis.
Any hiking trail closures/restrictions or diversions can be found here.
