To the cairns in the Maighels valley

With creative ideas in mind, we begin our hike at the Oberalp Pass, into the Val Maighels. On the way we enjoy the diverse alpine flora with Turk's cap or purple gentian, bubbling mountain streams and clear blue mountain lakes. On the Plidutscha plain we cross the young Rhine, which here still flows down to the valley as a lively stream. And after the lakes Lai Urlaun and Lai Carin, we reach Piogn Crap, where the water of the Rein da Maighel forces its way through a narrow crevice in the rock. Caution is advised, it has no safety devices.

With a view of the Bornengo Pass, we continue hiking and pass the junction for the Maighels Pass until we reach the Grava plain. Here they are! The numerous small and large cairns, built over the years by hikers during a rest. We soon set to work, because we see immediately: there are still enough stones. It is fun to enrich the colony with another object and to give pleasure to future hikers.

A visit to the Maighelshütte is worthwhile. Here you will find coffee and cake with a view.

From the Oberalp Pass we follow the marked hiking trail to Lake Toma and the Maighelshütte. However, we hike below Lake Toma and the Maighelshütte past towards Bornengo - and Maighelspass. We also pass the Maighelspass junction until we reach the Grava plain after about 15 minutes. We cover the way back on exactly the same route.
