Stage 9: Lakes Route

The Lakes Route takes you on a journey across postcard Switzerland. From Lac Léman to Lake Constance, it leads past ten larger and smaller lakes and offers wonderful views over the water to the Alps and pre-Alps.
Cyclists emerge from the serene glitter of Lake Geneva to enjoy the Gruyère cheese at Lac de la Gruyère and to experience Alpine dairies, customs and tourist hustle and bustle in the Saanenland. The unequal pair of brothers Lake Thun and Lake Brienz captivates with grandiose panoramas, funny sailing boats dance on the lakes and the snow peaks are reflected in deep blue green water. The Brünig Pass separates the Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland, where the multi-armed Lake Lucerne literally envelops the mountains. In Lucerne, tourists tumble off the buses.
Then the lakes lie strung together as if on a string of pearls: reed-crowned Lake Zug, battle-fortified Ägerisee, sought-after Sihlsee, villa-covered Lake Zurich and lake Walen with its high steep rock faces of the Churfirsten. In between, there are always strong transitions to conquer, but the hardship is loosened up by busy pilgrimage sites, flower-rich moors and bird paradises. In the Rhine Valley, the asphalt ribbons on the dam beckon and in the distance the flat river delta beckons with the vastness of Lake Constance. ©schweizmobil.ch

Stage 9: Niederurnen - Buchs (SG)
Figs and kiwis ripen on the protected south side of Lake Walen, where the infinitely high rock faces of the Churfirsten threaten to tip into the 150 meter deep water and give the region an almost Mediterranean climate. At Betlis, the water of one of the highest waterfalls in Switzerland, the Seerenbach falls, in 3 steps over almost 600 meters into the valley. A trip to the car-free wine village of Quinten from Murg is highly recommended, on this route the Walenseeschiff runs all year round. And from Unterterzen you can float directly from The Walensee with the panoramic gondola to the beautiful hiking area Flumserberg.
