Mumpé Medel und Disentis

Mule track between Disentis and the Lukmanier Pass

Beschreibung

The trail between Mompé Medel and Cazirauns is also called Senda Romana. It is a section of the medieval route, which was then used by German emperors, by farmers on the way to the upper Italian markets and by pilgrims. Already the Räter have followed the Lukmanierroute. The fact that it was celebrated during Roman times, in addition to the Septimer, Julier, Splügen and San Bernardino, is attested by individual, albeit sparse, found objects on the Lukmanier Pass and in the Blenio Valley.

At Mompé Medel, the path is formed by the connecting road, then it is cut twice by a melioration road. To the east of Mutschnengia, the former mule track has been abandoned as a result of road construction and melioration and is only fragmentarily present. In some places, the path is led as a brick alley, which is enclosed on both sides by dry stone walls. In other places, it was laid out in loose material as a slope path and supported with walls or provided with individual steps. The bricks used are mainly reading stones of different sizes. This path is also known to the farmers as the goat path, on which they drove their goats to the pastures. The dry stone walls are important from an ecological point of view.

The mule track over the Lukmanier Pass is listed as an object of national importance No. GR 77.1 in the Inventory of Historical Transport Routes of Switzerland (ITS).
