Schneeschuhtour Cumbel - Sogn Carli

If you want to take a look at snowshoeing, this is the place for you. The tour has no difficulties whatsoever and can easily be done as a beginner's tour in good weather and safe avalanche conditions. The views from the chapel at S. Carli are also overwhelming.

In the village of Cumbel, you first walk along the neighbourhood road to the entrance at the Plaun Rueun picnic area. Now you climb up the beautiful southern slopes with snowshoes on your feet. Again and again, warm wooden facades of the stables invite you to take a break before you reach the Sogn Carli chapel after about 1.5 hours. The panorama over the town of Ilanz, the Rhine Gorge and the magnificent 3000m peaks of the Sardona chain is unique in the Surselva.

Now the way back of the tour runs a short distance over the groomed winter hiking trail. At Giatreis you turn back into open terrain and now make your own track down to Cumbel.

After longer periods of sunshine, the lower slopes are often without snow. You can then hike up to the snow without snowshoes. Or you can take the summer hiking trail to about Sum Bual and then switch to snowshoes.
