The chapel of Sant'Antonio de Bolada, located between the Mounts of Sta. Maria i.C. and Braggio, was built during the plague of 1620, to save the population from the terrible scourge.

Beschreibung

Between 2000 and 2004, a group of volunteers and donors rebuilt the ancient church, preserving the original structure and enriching it with a mosaic by the young Ticino artist Leonardo Pecoraro.

Reflections on the mosaic work "Life" by Leonardo Pecoraro, inside the church:

Within the circle are the fundamental elements for life.

The sun: Val Calanca is a land kissed by the sun, the brightness of which is a symbol of vital force.

Water is essential for life, growth, and survival.

The Thorns: every living being in the course of their life goes through painful but useful moments to strengthen the soul and spirit and to be able to better appreciate the essence of life. At the time of the construction of the Chapel in the seventeenth century, the region was struck by the plague, a hint of that tragic event is represented by a passage of thorns of pain.

At the base there is the Earth, the green element, nature indispensable for every birth, growth and rebirth, like this Chapel.

It is a simple and immediately understandable work, before which we can bend down in a spiritual moment of reflection and contemplation on our life.
