Ruins of a tower, La Tuor, on an elongated rocky ridge east of the village center of Schlans.

Beschreibung

Ruins of a tower, La Tuor, on an elongated rocky ridge to the east of the village center. Massive tower with an almost square ground plan. Side length approx. 8.5 m, wall thickness a good 2 m. Layered boulders and erratic blocks. Good corner bond made of large ashlar blocks with particularly careful edge courses. Three storeys can be determined. High entrance in the south-west corner of the 3rd floor. Door with straight lintel. Above the door are hook brackets for attaching a canopy. Narrow slit embrasure in the south wall at the level of the second storey, otherwise no wall openings. The lack of further windows and indications of other furnishings suggest that it was most probably a wooden superstructure that contained the actual living quarters. The manor of Schlans initially appears to have been owned by the Belmont family and became a fief in the 14th century.

The Schlans were probably related to the Grünenfels, if not of the same lineage. The names Albert and Conrad are common in both families. The disappearance of the Schlans from the sources in the 13th century was possibly not due to the extinction of the family - as Poeschel assumes - but merely to a change of name. In any case, in the 14th century the estates and rights belonging to the castles of Schlans and Grünenfels formed a single manorial complex.
