Rhine-Reuss-Rhône Trail: Disentis - Oberalp Pass

 At the end of the 17th century, Disentis Abbey was the first work of Caspar Moosbrugger, who later built Einsiedeln Abbey. A perfectly staged opulent baroque with numerous altars, a large organ and Art Nouveau-like ceiling paintings set in stucco praise heaven on earth to the faithful.

Through well-kept meadows and small pretty hamlets with chapels, where the pilgrim saint James was remembered again and again in detail, the Way of St. James leads you into the partly wooded narrow valley to Sedrun. Here the Graubünden Way of St. James turns north to Lake Lucerne. At the altars of the Vigilius Church, Gomm's star carver Johann Ritz worked. We change the Rhine side for a short time and walk through the middle of the golf course to Tschamut. Elevated on the sunny slope, we reach the Oberalp Pass, along the railway line. The lighthouse, at the nearby source of the Rhine, welcomes us to a well-deserved night's rest on the pass, e.g. in the Gasthof Piz Calmot

The Oberalp Pass is closed to hikers in winter! However, it can be reached with the Matterhorn-Gottthard-Bahn (MGB). We walk parallel to the railway. Every 3 km we can get on or off at a train station.

For the overnight stay on the Oberalp Pass we have suggested an accommodation, but there are also some others. However, it is important to make a reservation, otherwise it could be a cold night.
