Der Ochsenberg
Beschreibung
The view goes over to the Piz Beverin, whose name goes back to the Latin word for "cattle, ox" ("bos").
This may be due to the two horns that make the summit look like an ox's head. Cresta – which in turn is of Latin origin and indicates rock / hill – is the first altitude level for those who want to hike up the Heinzenberg from Thusis.
Duke Henri de Rohan (1579 – 1638), who protected French interests in Graubünden during the Turmoil of Graubünden, described the gently rising ridge as "the most beautiful mountain in the world". It takes its name from Heinzenberg Castle near Präz, which in turn probably goes back to a field name.
Eight villages and several hamlets are spread over the Heinzenberg, which is characterized by landslides and ravines, whose highest point is located on the Lüschgrat at 2180 m above sea level.
