How elegantly the Rhaetian Railway winds through the nature of the Upper Engadine can be observed from the Montebello curve. It turns here on a 180-degree curve and parades in front of the vivid panorama with Morteratsch Glacier, which lies embedded between the peaks of the Bernina Group.

Already a hundred years ago, the place attracted photographers, whose pictures today testify to the retreat of the glacier. To get an idea for yourself, you can take a walk from Morteratsch station to the glacier. On the way, 16 information boards explain the phenomenon of glacier melting and time tables illustrate how the glacier has retreated by 2.8 kilometres since 1850.
