Marienkirche Lantsch / Lenz
Over the centuries, a sacred landscape of the first order developed in Lantsch/Lenz.

Beschreibung

If you approach the village over the extensive plateau of Lenzerheide, you will soon see the bright chapel of St. Cassian. Already in the sixth century, two small places of worship stood here, on an old route over the Alpine passes. In the village itself, the mighty parish church of St. Anthony of Padua has stood since the 17th century: Like many Baroque buildings in Mittelbünden, this church was also built by Capuchins in the course of counter-Reformation efforts. Finally, west of Lantsch/Lanz stands the former parish church of St. Maria. It contains wall paintings from the 14th century and a late Gothic wing age from 1479. The cemetery is unique: there are neither cast-iron grave crosses nor gravestones, but only hand-forged iron crosses – soon in the Gothic style, soon in the Renaissance or Baroque style.
