The charcoal required for metal extraction was hollowed here in various places. At that time, wood was used lavishly: when the mines were shut down in the 19th century, the slopes of the Ferrera Valley stood bare. Today, the name of the valley is reminiscent of the mining history, which was named after the Latin "Ferraria" (= iron mine). In addition, the coat of arms of Innerferrera shows a miner's hammer. In addition to the charcoal burner sites, historical witnesses include the former mine "Alp Taspegn Silver and Lead Mine" or "Gruobas / Ursera Copper Mine" and the historic smelting plant at Ausserferrera.
