Kloster St. Johann
Beschreibung
The monastery complex of the Benedictine convent of St. Johann in Müstair has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Founded around the year 800 and founded by Charlemagne, the monastery has been a Benedictine convent since the 12th century. At the end of the 19th century, Carolingian frescoes from the 9th century were discovered in the church, which is now considered one of the largest and best preserved fresco cycles of the early Middle Ages. In addition, there are Romanesque wall paintings from the 12th/13th century.
In addition, the monastery houses a monastery museum, which informs about the everyday life of the Benedictine nuns, cultural care, art and research.
