Station 1 des Hans Brühlmann Rundweges
Vättis, the Vättnerberg

Beschreibung

Joggabödali and Vättnerberg.

The Joggabödali at the foot of Calanda has the character of a cult place for Vättis. On the way to the former Vidameida glacier, out of the valley on the right side towards the Gnapperkopf mine, with a beautiful view of the Vättnerberg and Drachenberg to the left of the Tamina. The place was popular as a playground, also as a meeting place for shooters. The view of the Vättnerberg and the Drachenberg is unique: The Drachenloch, which can be seen from station 2, is a prehistoric cave at 2427 meters above sea level, inhabited in prehistoric times by cave bears, and probably used by Neanderthals as a meeting place for hunting and as a place of worship.

The Vidameida Gorge (on the right side out of the valley) used to be considered the lowest glacier in Switzerland (at 1000 meters above sea level!). The Gnapperkopf mine (Gnapper comes from the word squire) was not successful, but for several years there was some work, and in the house at Winkel 10 there was an experimental stamping mill. The Pocherich was a machine used to crush ores. This operation came to an end in 1866.The Vättnerberg was inhabited all year round until about 1800. The inhabitants were called Sprecher, Gort and Kressig. The Vättner surname Sprecher comes directly from the Vättnerberg.
