Gafarrabüel

The Weisstannental is rich in legends. High above the valley, for example, lies a plateau on which horrible things are said to have happened in the past. The Romanesque field name Gafarrabüel suggests that the alp was already known in pre-Christian times. On a flat surface above the alpine hut lies the old, legendary witches' dance ground. Witches, valley dwellers and, as can be seen from court records, also the noble ladies of the Carolingian monastery of Schänis are said to have gathered here and celebrated joyful parties.
