The men were at work in the fields or in Chur at the market when the fire broke out in the house of Landamman Paul Tscharner, in the middle of the village. It was nine o'clock in the morning.

Only three hours later, the church and all the buildings had become a robbery of the flames. Everyone, except the house in Starlatz. Perhaps its location at the bottom of the village favored its survival, perhaps also the thick stone walls. As the only house of Feldis, it has a common entrance for both humans and livestock. A kind of forecourt separates the house from the stable.

The fire of 1774, in which a woman died, was reflected in a poem written by a certain Johannes Barandun 30 years later. On a total of 168 stanzas, he tells of the conflagration, but also of the passage of the French, the rinderpest or the sad fates of individual Feldiser.
