Chisti Lumerins

The late medieval residential towers in Lumbrein immediately attract attention. The so-called "Chisti da Lumerins" was probably the seat of the Lords of Lumbrein, which had been documented since 1231. The second tower, "Casaulta", was probably built in the 14th and 15th centuries.

The late medieval residential towers in Lumbrein immediately attract attention. The so-called "Chisti da Lumerins" was probably the seat of the Lords of Lumbrein, documented since 1231. The second tower, "Casaulta", was probably built in the 14th and 15th centuries.

The striking tower of the "Chisti da Lumerins" is a little hidden on the southern edge of the village. It rises over five full storeys and has an additional crenellated structure above the north wall. The extraordinary building made of tuff is called "Chisti", in German: castle. It is witness to earlier influence.

More recent is the second tower "Casaulta". It is located on the upper edge of the village. "Casaulta" means something like high house. It is assumed that the tower was originally inhabited by a family that was in the service of the Bishop of Chur.
