Dolomite on the Schaffans plateau

On the Schaffans plateau the hikes take you exclusively over rock from the Triassic period. The striking karst fields show the typical forms of karst weathering in the yellowish-white dolomite rock. They offer ideal hiding places and tunnels for marmots. The brownish-grey limestone of the Spitzmeilen summit already dates back to the Jurassic period.
