Beschreibung

The recently restored church of San Martino dates back to the 13th century. The sober building with its significant early Renaissance pictorial decorations dating back to the 15th century, and in particular the representation of the Last Supper, is among the most important in the canton.  During the restoration of 1960/61, the frescoes on the main east façade were discovered and brought to light, depicting Saints Christopher, Martin, John the Evangelist, James the Greater, Anthony the Hermit, as well as the coats of arms of Bishop Ortlieb von Brandis (1458–1491). On the south wall of the nave, cut by the supporting pillar of the vault, there is a Last Supper. The table is richly laden with wine, bread, an Easter lamb, fish, artichokes and crabs. The church of San Martino, thanks to its excellent acoustics, is often used for concerts.
