Casa Besta

Casa Besta, a stately building, once home to influential Protestant families from Valtellina, served as a municipal house for several decades and since 2000 has been the seat of the ethnographic museum, the historical archives, the library and a multipurpose room, often used for cultural events.

In the 17th century, the farmhouse was converted into the palazzo of the Marlianico family. Fine carvings, stucco work and painted ceilings in the interior still bear witness to this golden age. The property then passed to the Besta, later to the Trippi family and towards the end of the 19th century to the municipality of Brusio.

The ethnographic museum tells the story of the village, which smells of tobacco and coffee, and is characterized by wine. Highlights of the collection include exhibitions on smuggling, tobacco cultivation and viticulture. The museum also offers an insight into local crafts and a collection of antique musical instruments.
