The chapel was built in the XVII century in honour of Saint Charles Borromeo, who had set out to spread the religious faith a few years earlier.

Built in 1630, the Chapel of St. Charles Borromeo faces south. In November 1583, St. Charles Borromeo visited Calanca and ventured into the mountains to preach against the Reformed doctrines that had been brought to the valley by foreign novices. According to tradition, the chapel was built on the mountain of the same name to commemorate this visit. On the way to the mountains of San Carlo you will also come across two small chapels, San Francesco and Salvatore.
