Brücke Schluein - Castrisch
Between Castrisch and Schluein, there has been a pedestrian bridge over the Rhine since the beginning of 2017. However, the route across the Rhine is centuries old and in the Middle Ages an important connection to the south.

Beschreibung

The first known Rhine crossing was a little downstream and was used from the 13th to the 15th century. Around 1560, a bridge north of Castrisch, near today's crossing, is documented.

It was central to Castrisch, Sevgein and Pitasch and part of an important route to Alpine passes such as the Güner Lückli, Valserberg and Greina Pass. Traders and travellers used this route to the south.

The crossing was also important in everyday life: for church events, the residents had to get to Sagogn, where the mother church stood. However, floods often damaged the bridge, so that repairs were necessary or ferries were used.

At the end of the 14th century, the crossing lost its importance, as traffic shifted to Ilanz. The current pedestrian bridge was built in 2017.
