Ruin Bregaglia Engadin
Borgo Casnacc
The late medieval ruins of Casnàcc are part of the Garbald heritage, the last contemporary witness of this fraction of Bondo, which was abandoned as a permanent settlement around 1600.
Beschreibung
Casnàcc is strategically located on a hillside terrace above the Maira. It is a "borgo" (fortified village) or "monte" (mountain pasture) and consisted of dwellings, stable barns and cascins (dehydrators for chestnuts), which were arranged in a village-like manner around a meadow area. Today, in addition to the stone house of the Fondazione Garbald, another dwelling house, several barns made of mortar masonry with corner pillars, but also various dry stone walls without mortar are visible. Many of these have been unused for at least 400 years. As with other places in the region, the abandonment of these buildings could thus coincide with the Graubünden turmoil.
