Short hikes in the treeless Avers high valley above Andeer offer one thing above all else: silence. With the cross-country trails and ski slopes far behind, the only distractions are snow-covered mountain peaks like the Gletscherhorn or Wengahorn.

Beschreibung

In Bergalga, a side valley of the high valley Avers, it still exists: the untouched nature, the peace, the fresh, cool mountain air. Because Avers has – thanks to its remoteness – been spared from wars and devastation since the 14th century. Thus, the culturally and historically valuable building fabric, especially the Walser houses, as well as the original settlement structures have largely been preserved. They give the valley, besides its numerous natural beauties, a special charm. During the construction of the hydropower plants from 1958 to 1962, the Averser street was upgraded to a winter-safe connection up to Avers-Juf.

The winter hiking trail starts in Avers-Juppa, which is conveniently reachable by PostAuto. From the pony lift, you first walk along the cross-country ski trail, past the Cawetta ski hut and then into the Bergalga valley. The further you go into the open, lonely, almost flat valley, the quieter it becomes. Not even the whistles of the marmots can be heard in the cold season. In Bergalga, more of these cute rodents live than in any other mountain valley.

While walking through the solitude, the hectic everyday life gradually fades away. You are only distracted by the snow-covered mountain peaks such as Piz Platta, the Gletscherhorn, Wengahorn or the Grauhörner. And for those who look closely, by chamois, ibex, golden eagles or even bearded vultures that can be seen in the slopes. The turn is made at the alpine huts of Nüwa Stofel, and the return is along the same path downhill.

Information about the condition of the winter hiking trails in Avers can be found here.
