Beschreibung

From Juppa, the path leads past the two inns «Berghotel turtschi» and «Hotel Bergalga» to the hamlet Podestatenhaus at 2046 m above sea level. In 1664, Augustin Strub, ex-Podestat in Valtellina, built the «Podestatenhaus» here as an old residence. The destination of the hike is Juf, the highest year-round inhabited settlement in Europe at 2126 m above sea level. The inhabitants of Juf live mainly from agriculture and tourism. Maybe you will spot some chamois, mountain jackdaws or even the golden eagle!? Food and accommodation are available in Juppa and Juf. You can return to the starting point by PostBus or on foot (on the same route).

The history of the high valley Avers goes back a long way. Although Late Stone Age and early medieval finds do not yet allow conclusions to be drawn about a permanent settlement, they suggest that the valley was used as a transit area very early. In the 13th century, the Avers was settled by the Walsers. This is still evidenced today by the settlement style (scattered settlements), the architectural style of the houses and the Walser dialect.

Information on the condition of the winter hiking trails in the Avers can be found here.
