Beschreibung

This tour starts by bike at the Obersee lake and continues towards Maran-Prätschli and then via the Weisshorn middle station to the Carmenna hut. After a short ascent you reach the Hörnli and the Hörnli hut, a restaurant that is also open during the summer season. It presents a perfect spot for a quick break. Afterwards a single trail with a short bike-carrying passage leads to the beautiful Urdensee lake. As of here the road conditions becomes better again and just before Tschiertschen it brings you back to the road that leads to Arosa via the Ochsenalp. After the Ochsenalp it is worth taking a detour via the Prätschalp with the last single trail loaded with roots. Guaranteed fun!

Anfahrt

Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel

Slowly, a bit like a tramway, the Arosa-train cruises through Chur, passing the city walls, the Malteser tower and the Obertor (gate), the landmark of Grisons capital. But soon the stroll on tracks across the city ends. At the city boarder the tramway changes into a mountain railway and climbs through the wild Schanfigg valley all the way up to the well-known holiday destination Arosa. On only 26km of length the trains ascents over one thousand altitude metres.

Anreise Information

As of Chur it takes about 40 minutes to climb the curvy street all the way up to Arosa. The Schanfigg road leads across the valley and during the 30km ascent and 360 turns it overcomes 1,320 metres of altitude.

Parken

The car park Ochsenbühl is located right next to the starting point. The parking fee totals CHF 6.00 for a whole day.

Storage lake

The impounding reservoir Hintere Hütte is situated on 2'055 m asl in Arosa. Other than the artificial lake Iselsee/Stausee, it does not serve the power production but the artificial snow production and belongs to the Arosa Bergbahnen AG.

Lake Urdensee is situated on 2'249 m asl in a side valley of the middle Schanfigg between the municipalities of Arosa and Vaz/Obervaz, as well as the alp region Urder Augstberg. It is surrounded by the mountains Plattenhorn, Hörnli, Hörnligrat, Tschirpen, Parpaner Weisshorn and Parpaner Schwarzhorn.
