Beschreibung
The well-preserved Zalöner huts with their shingle roofs bear witness to the traditional agriculture that the Walser were able to preserve until the middle of the 20th century. In addition to their inhabited farm on the village level, each family ran a single dairy on the Alpstufe. This consisted of three units, the dairy (hut), the sleeping room (Stupli) and the barn, where the cows spent the night and were milked twice a day. In the hay room of these barns only hay was stored to bridge periods of bad weather. It was therefore only slightly dimensioned. The alpine buildings are lined up between alpine meadows and alpine pastures at an altitude of 1800 to 2000 m above sea level.
Until 2020, a private individual dairy was still operated in one of the Zalöner huts.
