Bridge Viamala

Wilden Bridge

Wildener Brücke
Viamala-Schlucht im Winter
Both the Roman path and the later main route from 1472 once led through the narrowest section of the gorge on the west side in the centre of the Viamala Gorge.

Beschreibung

It was not until the road was built between 1729 and 1739 that this dangerous spot could be bypassed. However, this required two bridges: the Wildener bridges, named after the Davos master builder Christian Wildener. While only remnants of the northern bridge can still be seen today, the southern bridge, just above the Viamal visitor centre, had to endure all the traffic that passed through the Viamala until 1935. Since then, traffic has been routed over Luigi Premoli's bridge. The Zillis master builder thus made his contribution to the preservation of the southern Wilden bridge. However, he had completely replaced the northern bridge in 1938 due to the limited space available.
