Reformierte Kirche Hinterrhein

Hinterrhein im Rheinwald
Hinterrhein im Winter

The Reformed Church in Hinterrhein, located in the picturesque Rhine Forest, is a Protestant Reformed church that is under the protection of the canton of Graubünden.

Beschreibung

As early as 1219, the lords of Sax-Misox donated their church, dedicated to the patronage of St. Peter, to the collegiate monastery in San Vittore in the Misox Valley. This generous gesture established a long-standing connection between the Hinterrhein and the Italian-speaking southern valley of Graubünden, which lasted until the Reformation. With the acceptance of the new faith, Hinterrhein then sought to join Splügen.

Particularly noteworthy is the historically valuable baptismal font, which is located in front of the inner entrance door of the church. It dates back to the time of the medieval Walser migration and the first settlement in Graubünden. The interior of the church is dominated by an impressive pulpit with a sound cover, while in the choir there is a baptismal font, which is also used as a communion table. The church tower, only sparsely plastered and equipped with a single-storey belfry, has a characteristic flat dome.
