Kraftwerk Palü

At that time, the lowest level Robbia had already been on the grid for almost 20 years. At the beginning of the 20s there were concrete expansion plans as far as the Palüsee is concerned. It was assumed that the reservoir target of the Palüsee was significantly increased within a few years. The location for the Palü headquarters was therefore determined from this point of view. This led to the probably unique arrangement of the Palü power plant with a Pelton turbine with a vertical axis turbine at ground level and a second turbine (Francis), located over 30 meters lower and rotating on the same axis. In order to reduce dependence on foreign countries, Palü pumps were installed at the headquarters during the Second World War. Since then, water collected in the Palüsee has been pumped up into Lago Bianco through the Lago Bianco-Palü waterway.
