Beschreibung
The church is open daily from 09:00 - 18:00.
The main entrance is marked by an impressive gate decorated with frescoes (2).
Various painters have left their mark over the centuries, although the scenes, which had been covered up for a long time, were only made visible again during the renovation in 1910. The left-hand side of the nave with the pulpit shows the art of Hans Jakob Greutter*: Half concealed by the organ loft, the Queen of the Rosary can be seen as the Virgin of the Protection (3) with St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena. Next to the pulpit is St. James the Elder (4) with the walking staff and nine pictures from his life. The kneeling figures are members of the Cabalzar family, who presumably undertook the pilgrimage to Santiago di Compostela.
The walls in the choir are completely painted. On the right-hand side is an impressive coronation of the Virgin Mary (5). The late Gothic winged altar from 1520 comes from the workshop of Christoph Scheller (6). The two side altars were made by the Ritz workshop in the 18th century. It is worth taking a look into the choir vault to study the angels with their various musical instruments (7).
The depiction of the Last Judgement, which can only be seen from the organ loft, is disappointing in that the severe damage caused by the installation of a window leaves only a few details visible. On the left-hand side, however, the angel is recognizable, showing the redeemed the way to heaven (8). The color red on the right side, of course, unmistakably points to hell.
