The Sogn Antoni Catholic chapel is privately owned by the Sgier family and is located in the center of the village on the lower Dorfstrasse next to the former school and parish hall. According to the inscription, the baroque chapel was built in 1668 by Gion Sgier and is now owned by the Sgier family foundation.

Beschreibung

Initially, the chapel had a small bell with a diameter of 30 cm. In 1842, Franz Theus in Felsberg cast a bell with a diameter of 37 cm. The chapel has been renovated several times, including in 1940, 1984 and most recently in 1996/1997.

The choir of the one-room chapel faces south-east, is slightly recessed, closed on three sides and raised by one step. The ceiling medallion depicts the coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary by the Holy Trinity. The altar structure is divided by four columns. These are smooth in the lower part and fluted in the upper part. The capitals of the columns are connected on the outside by two beams, resulting in two outer and one slightly higher central niche. In each of the two outer niches stands a praying angel in a floor-length gold-colored dress with a white drape. In the higher, round-arched central niche is a carved wooden statuette of St. Anthony of Padua with the infant Jesus in his arms. This statuette is dated to the 19th century.

The nave has a barrel vault with two side stitch caps and a surrounding profiled stucco cornice. Above the door is a large lunette with pale-colored honeycomb glass and the inscription “GION SGIER 1668” below it. Two ceiling medallions depict the Holy Family with John the Baptist and John the Evangelist depicted as boys on the one hand and the four holy virgins Catherine, Agnes, Barbara and Agatha with their attributes on the other. The right-hand window contains a stained glass window with the coat of arms of the Sgier family.

The outer walls of the chapel are divided by four corner pilaster strips. The double-leaf, carved door is flanked by two niches painted with images of St. Anthony of Padua and St. Francis. The steep pitched roof is hipped over the choir and covered with metal sheets. The ridge turret with a hexagonal pointed helmet stands on four posts above the choir. The hand-pulled bells hang in it.
