Kapelle Sogn Benedetg, Sumvitg

For a thousand years, the Capletta Sogn Benedetg defied storm and weather above Sumvitg until it was completely destroyed by a huge dust avalanche on February 10, 1984. As a result, the well-known architect Peter Zumthor was commissioned to build a new chapel in a safe location. It was inaugurated in 1989. Since then, the ruins of the old chapel have also been restored.

The chapel, which was designed by Peter Zumthor, is located a few hundred meters from the old site. The wooden construction integrates elements of local construction, is at the same time traditional, but also very modern. Thus, the teardrop-shaped floor plan plays with natural geometric shapes, inside skylights and the many wood give the room a warm and light mood.
