The Reformed Church is a jewel among churches. The wall paintings of an unknown master around 1330 are particularly valuable

from an art-historical point of view.

Beschreibung

history

The first church of Waltensburg was without a doubt St. George in the castle. The patronage of the parish church in the village - Desiderius and Leodegar - is first mentioned around 1493. Presumably, the first title originally stood alone.

specifications

The northeast-facing complex consists of the nave and an almost square choir bent slightly northwards from the main axis. It is vaulted with a brick-lined barrel. On the east wall is a Romanesque arched window; a similar one opens in the south wall. In the north side a Gothic door with a straight lintel to the old sacristy. Above the nave is a field ceiling with round tables and black ornaments, 1711. The entrance on the west side closes in a slightly pointed arch.
The tower stands without bandage on the west side of the nave. The entrance on the south side is 1.7 m above the ground. On the three top floors round-arched windows, rising from simple narrow windows to two- and three-part coupled ones. The fighters rounded, partial columns with raw square bases, one of them replaced by chamfered supports, 12th century octagonal baroque dome hood.

Murals

During renovations in 1932, paintings appeared both inside and in the Aeusseren. The Cycle of the Passion and the Lord's Supper, the Capture of Christ, the Carrying of the Cross, The Presentation of Christ before Pilate, the Crowning of Thorns and the Flagellation, the Crucifixion of Christ, the Burial of Christ. Figures of saints are on the north wall of the nave, dated 1350. On the inner wall of the choir arch the picture of the Judgement of the World Court (fresco from 1450/51). All paintings were created in three epochs. I. Passion Cycle, II. The outer west wall: Scenes from the life of St. Margaretha, Stage III: included the whole painting of the choir with the female saints and closes with St. Stephen.
