Beschreibung

After a city fire in 1483, a new building was started and completed in 1518. After the disputation in 1526 between clergy of the Catholic Church and J. Comander and other representatives of the Reformation in St. Margarethenkirche, Ilanz converted to the Reformed faith and St. Margarethenkirche was also reformed.

The late Gothic complex consisting of the rectangular nave and the choir is a single work of art with various divided fields and magnificent paintings. The motifs show flowers, tendrils, fruits and motifs from the early Renaissance, all of which reflect the joy of life. In the middle there are symbols of the four evangelists with their names. The Dance of Death is depicted in a special form. Most of these paintings were rediscovered and restored in 1934 under the whitewashed walls.
