Evangelische Kirche Neukirch

The inhabitants, 155 in number, who at that time lived widely scattered on their farms in the area between Riimatte and Egschi, decided in 1697 to build their own church against the will of the inner valley inhabitants. This is so that you don't have to take a seat on the up to eight-kilometre-long path to Safien in any weather, whether rain, snow, storm or sun. In just 34 days, the fathers of the family and their sons, under the guidance of local craftsmen, built the church with a small cemetery on the ridge. This is what it says in a commemorative inscription found in the button of the church tower. All of them are listed by name along with their construction services.

The interior of the church was completed in 1698. The wooden baroque pulpit with its inlays and scaled pilasters also dates from this period. It is the oldest pulpit of the three Safi churches. A flat ledge covers the nave, in the choir you stand under a barrel vault with stitch caps. The gallery was built in 1747. In its simplicity, the church corresponds to the Reformation's demand that a house of worship must be simple so that nothing distracts from the Word of God.
