Burgruine Valendas

West of the village below the cantonal road you can see walls of the former castle Valendas; was probably built in the late 12th century, the still visible part of the ring wall is impressive. Originally the castle was the seat of the Lords of Valendas, it became part of the Rhenegian possessions in the Vorderrheintal around the middle of the 14th century. In the 16th century it was owned by the de Mont family, after 1550 it was no longer inhabited.
